A chronicle of sorts

about what's for dinner…
and breakfast…
and lunch…
and the midnight snack.

An SF Bay Area expat, I'm currently exploring the delicious but sprawling urban jungle that is the city of angels.

Vegetables. Done right — i.e. given their due. In Los Angeles. This is no small discovery.

LA is a meat-heavy place. On menu after menu after menu, it’s incredibly easy to find pork or beef or chicken (Los Angeles does love its chicken), but exceedingly difficult to find fresh, in season vegetable-heavy menus. Which is somewhat ironic, given the area’s proximity to one of the most fertile chunks of land in the world.

Love it. Both the sit-down restaurant and it’s sister establishment next door, featuring an epic to-go menu with pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and desserts.

The Oakland ‘09ers

A few Oakland food and drink entrepreneurs had faith in my beloved adopted city in 2009. Today, they, and the city — it’s citizens, it’s government, and other entrepreneurs — are reaping the benifits.

You will not be successful if you’re not 100-percent authentic,” he said. “This town sniffs a fake.

Hunting by liberal, urban, locavores is a trend good for the environment. »

My brain is hurting with the simultaneous labeling/hating-on + reasoned exploration/appreciation happening in this piece. I’m confused, are they silly gun-toting hipsters or participating in a viable solution to a societal problem?

The silly little hipster tone is an over-used, lazy-writer crutch and has as much need of culling as do the herds of wildlife mentioned in the linked article.
